This final installment in the Eragon series showcases Christopher Paolini's growth as a writer (he started the series as a teenager). I chose this book at the recommendation of several friends, one of which loaned me the book after I posted a 12 books by 12 friends challenge.

We conclude the story with Eragon approaching his encounter with Galbatorix after losing his mentor. Eragon knows that he must somehow find a way to defeat the most powerful sorcerer of all time.
His character development of Eragon and Murtagh is delightful to follow. Eragon gains wisdom and Murtagh recognizes the fragility of his moral compass. I loved the creative resolution and felt like I could learn a lesson from the choices I witnessed Eragon face. I brought the book with me to other states, homes, and events for a month, and it was worth it.

The ending felt rushed, and I would have developed the final encounter in more detail. There were unanswered questions and futures for us to ponder, such as Elva and the Ra'zac. If you like adventure, YA, fantasy, magic, and creatures, this is the book for you. Eragon's coming of age story is entertaining because we continue to encounter new flaws even as he grows. I will be recommending this book to my 16-year old niece and adding it to my audiobook library.

This was a brilliant book. I had a fabulous time reading it. There were a lot of details that were intricate. The worldbuilding continued to blow me away. The characters and their various relationships amazed me. While the plot was a little predictable, it kept me interested and engaged.

The way Eragon is able to challenge the king is kind of a cop out, but I still enjoyed it since it did dive into the trauma the dragons faced and allowed them to fight back as well. I also wish there was some way that Earagon could have stayed, he has his reasoning but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it ended happier and more fulfilling. The ending also leaves a lot unanswered. What about Arya's developing feelings? Angela's past? The werecats future? Does Earagon reach a safe space to house the dragons? Does Saphria have children after mating? Does that mate bond apply to Earagon as well since it was mentioned in an earlier book that they're bond of love will include the other? Anyways, it was a good read, better than the previous books but i wish more happened rather than just explaining the world or emotions.
