Other than a few outdated sentiments regarding gender and same-sex relationships, this book has more than passed the test of time in its progressive mindset and timeless ideals. This isn't just a book about love-it's a book about how a capitalistic society poisons relationships, about how toxic superficiality can be for the pretender and for the listener, about how the only way to experience life to its fullest is to love yourself and live in the moment. This book changed the way I look at life and opened up my mind to what it truly means to love someone.
I had my doubts, at first, because of some of the comments about gender roles and homosexual relationships, but considering the time in which Erich Fromm lived and the societal expectations he faced, he did an incredible job at breaking down many traditional views and values and painting love in an objective and timeless light.
