I don't like first person, present-tense novels as a general rule. It is to the author's credit that she is talented enough to write a story that is both such a great premise and so well written that I can largely ignore it for most of the book. And when it did bother me, well, women assassins serving the god of death in late middle ages Brittany was enough to pull me through.

I really liked this book! It was mysterious and had a good romance and bond between characters. I wish there was a little more adventure in this book. It felt like it was more mysterious than adventurous. I do love a good strong badass female MC. I
I do think it was really weird that she had to have sex with someone to heal the poison from them.. thought that was a little odd.. not really sure why that would be her gift.

This is one of those books where I liked the platonic relationships better than the romantic ones. I loved every moment of Ismae with the duchess and it was so cool seeing their friendship blossom in a believable, touching way. The romance was fine, but I felt myself rooting for the powerful lady duo instead of the main couple. Overall, a great book with intriguing characters.
