I do not have any idea about the Holocaust. I just know na bwakinangshet si Hitler. I never thought ganito ang mga pinagdaanan ng mga survivor šŸ˜ this book was heartbreaking from start to finish šŸ„ŗ specially if you are also listening to the audiobook while reading. All the feels šŸ˜šŸ˜

I set a timelapse to see how I react on the last 30% of the book when he finally met his wife and became a father. Yung akala mo that you will never feel any ounce of happiness, pero there is a pot of gold pala sa finish line šŸ„¹

Itā€™s more heartbreaking to see the photos at the end of the book šŸ„ŗ lalo na yung photo with his family. Imagine yung nagkahiwalay kayo during the war tapos hindi mo na alam kung kelan kayo next magkikita or magkikita pa ba kayo šŸ˜

This will definitely be part of my ā€œbook that made me sob at 3amā€ shelve. I want to have a physical copy of this.

Btw, he died last Oct 2021 lang at the age of 101. Who would have thought that he will be a centenarian. After all the hardships during his 20s.

A witness testimony that really touched me. The stories about what happened to Eddie really struck me, as I could try to imagine them. They were ā€˜easierā€™ to try to imagine, than some other witness stories. For example the story about the nights in the barracks, while it was freezing, where the people on the outside had to swap places with the ones on the inside to not freeze to death. The way the author describes everything, and really takes you on a tour around his life and everything that happenedā€¦ I donā€™t know, but it hit me hard. And even though the stories are horrendous and unimaginable, and you can feel the despair and sorrow behind every wordā€¦ the hope at the end is so present during it all. It really makes you rethink your life and letā€™s you reflect on your life in this society. And while I must admit that I am not that hopeful for the future to come, I am hopeful that I can change my life and that of my family and friends for the better by loving them and being loved in return.Ā

Thank you, Eddie, for sharing your experiences with the world. And for trying to explain what happened, so we can try our best to not let hate and inhumanity take over again.Ā
