Absolutely fantastic. The assassin is an amazing character. The plot was extraordinary. The only reason it’s a 4 star is that I wanted a little love action between the MC and the Royal Guard... maybe in the next one!

I just enjoyed this a heck of a lot more than I expected to. Fantasy isn’t like my favorite but I’ve become invested in fan theories this year and friends reading fantasy and it’s fun to do things together SO anyway!!!!! I just thoroughly had a good time reading this one and it set up well for the coming books while holding its own as a story which I appreciate because I feel like the first of a fantasy series is always just prep for the other books.

This book is obviously a set up for the series, and I finished it with more questions than I have answers, which doesn't make me feel like I've just read the best book ever. The setting of the castle makes me want more from the world, the lack of romance in general makes me wonder if there ever will be any, and I am left feeling like these characters could go in any direction from here. Are they really her friends? Are they really her enemies? Hmmm... ultimately, this book doesn't make me want to grab the next book immediately to see what happens, but I will say I appreciate the omniscient narrator far better than the first person narrator on ACOTAR, though it isn't quite as dramatic and exciting.

ToG has been in my TBR for a long time. . . And to be honest I don't know why. The story of Celeana, Choal and Dorian has had me on the edge of my seat for 3 days, I can not wait to read the rest of the series, this has got me hooked on YA Fantasy all over again ❤️

Seems typical for my experience with SJM books to feel pretty "meh" about the first one, but I know the payoff will be there if I stick with it! Really enjoyed the character development in this book but overall it moved very slow and not much happened. Excited to read the rest of the series.

Just like every beginning in fantasy series, it was a little slow. But in typical SJM fashion, the last 150 pages were absolute chaos. I ended up starting this book through the audiobook because I was taking a long road trip and had the time to kill, and I am glad that I did that because I don’t know how long it would’ve taken me to get through those first 100 or so pages. Once I got more into it, I cracked open the book and I was done quicker than I thought I would be!

I am anxious to see why all of Tiktok shits on Chaol, because at this point in time, I enjoy his character. I fear that is going to be one of those things that is going to hurt my feelings! Not mentally prepared for that.

Overall I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to continuing it!

So I read this one second because I did not realize it was a series, but it still was awesome to gain more background
