Set in 1818 London, twenty-one year old Lady Amelia Plume is attracted to thirty year old Major Lucas Winter.
Some of the plot has elements similar to Dumas’s: Count of Monte Cristo

Follows the Royal Brotherhood series.

This story was fun and at least slightly more realistic than most.

Pure brain candy
I read this series ages ago and didn’t remember much about it except that it made me happy. I can confirm on reread that it still makes me happy. It’s pure fluffy escapism, slightly silly but still mostly historically accurate, the heroine was strong and feisty and the hero a bit of an ass. But that’s really the point of these. The hero learns and grows because of his independent and strong love interest. These do follow a formula but that formula works. It’s a light read with some action and adventure, an entertaining plot and plenty of spice and a nice epilogue showing the characters’ happy ending. This is a great series and quintessential Sabrina Jeffries. I wish she could get back to this, as her new stuff is very meh. This is a good series for those new to historical romance, to dip a toe in. This is not a bodice ripper and has some familiar contemporary elements without being too anachronistic. I’m going to continue rereading this series as it got me out of the beginning of the book blahs, where everything was boring me. Hopefully my memory is just as faulty with the rest so I can enjoy them as if for the first time.

The so called hero is a creepy, rapey trash panda who lies to his wife continuously, but is super angry that she's ever lied to him at any point. The whole premise of the story is creepy and bullshit from the beginning. A, despite the whole "reads scandalous harem books" ridiculousness, sheltered English lady gives this dude a hand job and allows him to finger her on their second ever meeting? Yeah, no. There are books that demand suspension of disbelief and then there's this book which demands that you let your brain escape before it's either believable or a good romance.

The first book of the series was is quite good. It's great for a lighthearted read, considering the characters are as they seem to be. Though the pace was fast, and it needed more character formation, it was a good romance read so long as they don't take it way too seriously. The sex scenes, though some may disagree with me, were steamy and, well, refreshing. It's not something readers read in everyday historical romances and I find that I don't mind at all. It's more graphic than most too, but it hardly passes as porn. That said, on to the next book!

Very hot & very fast. They fall in love within a week which I usually hate but I was able to ignore it in this case because the characters had chemistry and opened up to each quite beautifully.
