Very nice and sweet, I just wish we had a nit more funny exchanges when they get more confortable with each other.

I'm a bit sad I already read the next one, because the little sneak peak at the end made me want to read it all over again.

The critical reader in me would like to nitpick about little things like character and motivation and gullibility. In this particular instance, I’m choosing to ignore her. This book was fun.

I picked this up after hearing about it on YouTube in one of JeansBookishThoughts’ videos. She was talking about romance novels and this sounded fun. And man, did I enjoy it. I flew through it, starting at about 9:30 or so at night and finishing at about 1:00 in the morning. I couldn’t put it down. Michael is a Marquess, who’s been disgraced after losing pretty much his whole inheritance in a gambling match. He vows revenge against the man who set him up. Ten years later, we meet Penelope, who’s 28 and a spinster, still weathering a scandal of her own from eight years ago, even though she was completely innocent. They knew each other as children. There’s a marriage of convenience, lots of missed opportunities to mend things, and sparks fly.

I loved Michael and Penelope together. She did frustrate me at times, simply because he does some pretty despicable things and she seems to forget them all in close proximity because sexual attraction exists. But when she’s being an opinionated, determined woman, she’s amazing. Michael is a cross between Captain Wentworth and Mr. Rochester, with a bit of Edmond Dantes thrown in for good measure. I loved him. Their chemistry is believable and the book is sprinkled throughout with a correspondence between to youths that was just wonderful.

I’m usually not an open door reader, but I’ve been tearing through romances since lockdown started. This was another one that wound up really working for me, and the only reason it’s not a five star read is because of that little issue with Penelope’s character. I found the discussion of women’s basically being chattel to trade very interesting. I also enjoyed the way it dealt with how scandal affects the two genders very differently, which hasn’t changed much in modern times. He’s just a rogue, still rich and acceptable. She ends up on the outskirts of society, blamed for messing up her sisters’ chances of advantageous marriages. And she didn’t even do anything wrong!!!!!

Anyway, this was fun, fast, sultry, steamy, and yet somehow, truly romantic. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

I had a hard time getting into the story because it's not my typical type of romance but once I got Into the characters I feel in love with them and their story. The characters were well developed and the setting was fabulous.

It was definitely not a bad read--indeed I stayed with it throughout--but something about it felt lackluster in comparison with similar reads. I'll continue the series but I don't feel compelled to keep reading like I did with, say, the Maiden Lane books. Worth a read nonetheless.

Penelope was "ruined" when her fiance called it off. Her childhood friend Michael, who lost everything in a card game, comes back to take what is rightfully his by abducting and marrying Penelope.

Now known as Bourne, Michael is out for revenge, and he'll walk all over Penelope to get it. But Penelope wants love in her sham of a marriage.

A ROGUE BY ANY OTHER NAME is filled with tears and laughter. It's heartbreaking and heart-warming. It will leave you feeling satisfied and fulfilled.

I used to read romance novels in high school. Never the entire book, mind you. Just the dog-eared passages passed around under the cafeteria tables. I tried the Lucky Harbor books a while back, and qrew tired of "(Female name) bangs (male name), the hot (job title) in Lucky Harbor." plotlines. * So I again wrote off the genre, until I received this book as part of the Book Riot Quarterly Box for May, the theme being "Expand Your Readerly Horizons."

For the first 50 or so pages, I read it on the train while hiding the book in my purse so people wouldn't see the cover of the very "plain" (yeah right) Penelope come-hithering on the stairs. Then as the plot pulled me deeper in I didn't care who saw that I was reading a romance novel.

The difference between this book and the ones I read in high school is that Penelope isn't really a victim. Sure, she's in a rough spot and she's mostly powerless to change it, but within the societal framework that she's a part of she's very adept at thinking her way into and out of situations. Michael's an ass, but it's 1831 London - ALL of the men in that book are asses.

Yes, I'll read the next one in the series. YOU WIN, SARAH MACLEAN AND BOOK RIOT.

* (Male name), the hot pharmacist in Lucky Harbor must have a hard time keeping antibiotics in stock, ifyouknowwhatImean.

This one started off good and I loved the banter as well as the set up of the book.
The thing is I got so irritated with Bourne. He doesn't listen to her! So, they end up talking in circles. Also, his whole need for revenge... I get it, but thought he should have blamed himself more instead of continuing to blame everything on that one instance in his life.

And yet, I can't stop myself. The epilogue has me hooked for the next one.
