I loved this book and it felt refreshing to learn about the emotions and workings of an older man. I feel like I learned a lot and will sympathise a lot more with the grumpy old men in my life.  I think men would enjoy this book too.

This book was sooo good!! I don’t really know how to organize my thoughts about it. Super emotional- it will have you laughing, smiling, and crying within a few pages of each other. It was just sweet to read a story about some old dude and his life and the people who he loved and who love him now. Each character felt very real and fleshed out, and the dialogue was fantastic. I couldn’t reccomend this book enough!! (aside from some content warning things)

Prepare to cry. I finished this book in my math class so now my notes are stained with tears :(
But seriously, I went into this not expecting much, but Backman uses basic callback techniques to remind the reader of events from earlier in the book. At first, I thought it was a cheap technique, but it makes sense later in the book as you learn more about the complexities of Ove and co. and you can't continue without understanding and remembering those details and emotions. It was a nice easy read, but I will admit I cried every time I opened the book. Not for the weak.

a beautiful book about doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. And how doing the right thing can save you.
