Very interesting magic and lore of the world! I have not read something like this before. I really found this book healing as someone who is also dealing with the loss of a loved one and still struggles with that depression. It was nice to have a main character that expressed her grief is a relatable way. This story definitely took some turns I was not expecting, and I can't wait to figure out how the story ends in book 2!
Graphic: Death, Violence, Death of parent, and Murder
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts
Minor: Suicide attempt

i think i’m starting to go past YA and it breaks my heart. i know i would have adored this 3 years ago but now it just seems immature. the MC is so angsty and misunderstood it makes me sick. the female best friend was painted as an intelligent black girl for 2 seconds and then used for comic relief and someone for the MC to talk to. both boys are obsessed with her i just - it’s all so unrealistic and slightly annoying. i will say tho when cat took care of eureka after what happened on the boat, nearly made me cry i mean what a good friend. probably one of the best scenes . i want to find out what happens next but i don’t know if i can stick more of this writing. also, some of the “magical” things were just described in not even close to enough detail? like, it’s magical, we we don’t know what it looks like, you aren’t going to describe it well enough for us to understand? idk man, we’ll see if i read the rest.
Graphic: Bullying, Death, Drug use, Mental illness, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Blood, Medical content, Stalking, Car accident, Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Murder, Gaslighting, Toxic friendship, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail

I had bought this book back when it was first published mainly because I loved the cover and I had read the Fallen series for the first time and love them. I didn't end up reading it till way later, and while I think I would have loved it. But as it stands I quite enjoyed the story and the legends and myths of Atlantis. I've never read a book where Atlantis was a main plot in the story and I especially loved how Lauren Kate put her own spin on the Atlantis legend.
This is a insta love, love story and while I don't care for that trope much I think it worked for this story. I don't know how I feel about Ander and Eureka as a couple cause I don't know much about him or what they're like together. Hopefully we'll get more of that in the next book.

There is depression, talk of hospitalization, loss of a loved one and talk of suicide.
