I'm not sure how I found this book, but I'm glad I did. This is the second book by the author. His first book apparently introduced a detective named Donald Tremaine. This book introduces another one, Jack Darvelle. Jack is a man with definite opinions. He doesn't care for the "make me a star" obsession that abounds in LA. He likes old school, simple design, Budweiser and ping pong. He's asked by a famous director and producer to find a woman. They had a short affair, he explains. He loves his wife, but she was special. He wants her to know that if she needs anything, he' there for her. The book unfolds slowly as Jack finds her and a day later she is murdered. It becomes a personal obsession. There are loads of red herrings here. Plus Jack's dry humor is really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading his first book.
