This story was adorable! I loved it, which actually surprised me since I definitely didn't like Easton's The Lion and the Crow. But for a novella, this story was very well written and had both a strong plot and complex characters. I felt that the depiction of the queer experience was done quite well, even the darker parts of it. And I have to admit that there were a few moments where I got scared that the story was headed in a direction that I didn't like, but it luckily never went there. I also liked that the ending

was happy while still acknowledging that there would still be struggles that Owen and Jordan would face as a same-sex couple. I'd also say that Owen's parents' attitudes toward his sexuality seemed to change a bit quickly, but perhaps it would have taken away from the story if all that development had been on-page.

 

So happy that I found this little story and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic queer bildungsroman.
