An excellent conclusion to the storylines introduced in Lirael, with much better pacing and character development. Honestly better than Sabriel, too. A worthy “conclusion” to the Old Kingdom series.

The best in the series so far, imo. Even though it feels like the second half of Lirael. Loved it, cried a lot at the end. 💚

DNF at 65%

I wanted to sit and finish this today, but reading it I realised what's the point wasting my time when I'm not invested in the story or anything at all.

I'm not sure if it's the writing style, but all of the characters are soooo bland and boring, I don't root for them, I don't like them, they have no personality, even Mogget and the Dog were so dull for me.

The story didn't seem to have any sort of pacing, I don't know what's ever going on in these books and I'm not sure why.

So yeah, unfortunately I'm going to have to DNF the series as a whole, I've looked at the reviews and they don't seem to get any better for the last few, which is a huge shame cause I was so looking forward to reading these. I just don't see the point in forcing myself to finish a book/series that I'm not invested in :(
