This book suffered from the issue most anthologies suffer from: it was a really uneven read. That’s not even a comment on the quality of the stories, it’s just that some of them were my jam and some were very much not.

Ordinarily, I don't much care for anthologies since the tone and feel of the stories can be jarringly difficult but this was a joy to read. I would have read novel length versions of most of these stories.

I can't properly rate this book because I mostly read it for the T. Kingfisher story, which I rate 5 stars. I did read some of the other stories but they didn't really grab me.

This sort story collection was delightful for lovers of myths and sci-fi alike. My favorite story was “¡Cuidado! ¡Que Viene El Coco!” by Carlos Hernandez, page 173. I also loved T. Kingfisher's spin on Hercules, just as I love everything she writes.
Graphic: Cannibalism
Moderate: Racism, Stalking, Forced institutionalization, Gore, Panic attacks/disorders, Cursing, Sexual harassment, Toxic relationship, Mental illness, Antisemitism, Confinement, Body horror, Grief, Sexual assault, Death of parent, Drug abuse, Religious bigotry, Self harm, Animal death, Death, Drug use, Sexual content, Classism, Animal cruelty, Blood, and Murder
Minor: Islamophobia
The themes explored in the stories are often heavy and/or challenging. The bigotry in the stories is always textual, not a reflection of toxic biases in the authors. Some of the stories are much more graphic than others. The two stories I mentioned in my review are some of the safest and certainly the most comforting if you want to avoid anything scary/ graphic/ upsetting.
