I really enjoyed this book immensely.

The main character, Hirsch, was very well fleshed out and very relate-able, without seeming unrealistic. Many of the characters, even if they don't make many appearances, all seem to have well though out backgrounds and emotions.

I'm not very familiar with Australian landscape, but Disher was able to describe the setting so well, that I could actually imagine exactly how everything looked. Sometimes I feel that descriptions can impede how a book flows, but not at all in this instance.

I was so absorbed in this book that I hated to put it down. There is never a boring moment and I read it every spare moment I had. The story did a great job of not revealing much until the end, but more than enough to keep me hooked. Everything that was mentioned, even remotely, came to be important at the end.

I really loved reading this book. It was one of the better suspenseful novels I've read in a long time. It's impossible to put down until you finish it!

More like 4.5 out of 5. Give us half ratings already, Goodreads!

3.5 stars rounded up.
A very readable, atmospheric slow-burn crime novel set in a tiny farming community in Australia.

Everything was going great until the ending. It seemed so sudden and unfinished to me. Lost half a star for that.

Standard murder mystery but set in the outback of South Australia. Bonus points for setting descriptions.
