Plenty of heat. I never felt that I got as into this book as other people seem to. No butterflies in my stomach.
Massive age gap: >5000 - 23. Not as quite as ridiculous as a 38yo billionaire and his 20yo intern but close...
I liked it, I really did. But I’m not feeling the hype. I’ll give the second book a try and see how I feel. It was well written, planned out, everything was there. I just didn’t connect. No butterflies, no tears, no sinking stomach.
I felt like there was so much more to see/learn about Wyn (which is probably why he has his own short story later). But there were so many moments where more of him could have come out and been seen, but it didn’t.
I’ll keep going with the series, I’m informed it only gets better.

In particular, I liked that this book did a thing I usually struggle to stay invested with very, very well. Insecurity and constant miscommunication are often very grating to me but! I think this book did a wonderfully realistic job of that especially given the relationship experience Wyn and Danny both had.
Beyond that, they were incredibly sweet together. Wyn has wonderful moments of being nonhuman and of Danny struggling with understanding his thought process. And Danny, too, is very sweet for how he does try to understand and be sensitive about things they conflict on.
The sex scenes aren't written in the way I find most appealing but they're not bad and I think they do a wonderful job of showing the emotions at play during them. Plus, even if they aren't my usual style, they're really fun! I liked them a lot.
I'm interested in the world and its characters. Hopefully I get around to reading the next in the series soon. Even the fact I do not like military themes much in romance isn't dissuading me much here.
The worldbuilding is fun and engaging and I can't wait to see more of it.
Overall, I had a great time with this book and am interested in checking out more from the author.
