Entertaining, yet annoying characters. Yes, when I'm in the castle of a man who may have possibly murdered my father, I would also have sex with my ex-husband who I have berated throughout the book. Yes sir. Suffice to say that I found Rachel worthy of a punch in her stupid face. A judge, sure. It is high time for someone to write an adventurous mysterybook that I might actually believe has really happened.

I picked this book up because of its title. The writing is crap, full of trite Russian-observed shit, and prevented me from enjoying what should have been a fun tale of theft and Soviet-German intrigue. As a side note, why does the picture of the authors in this book make them look tortured?

This is probably my least favorite of all of Steve Berry's books. I find it very slow going. I am tempted to put it down, but I am trying to persevere . . . ok, I finally gave up, about 2/3 of the way through. There was nothing to keep me hooked, and the characters were too contrived to make me want to find out what happened to them.

I had read other novels by the author and was intrigued by the subject of the Amber room but for some reason I found this book to be slow for at least the first 1/2. I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the mood for this type of book when I started or what. I suspected it was Berry's first novel and maybe that is a factor as well.
I would probably give it more of a 2.5/5 star rating.

A neighbor insisted that I read this and it is not my usual forte. I will try to give any book a chance but I just did NOT like it. So many lengthy descriptions that went on and on, bad sex scenes, condescending men... blech. Not for me.

I listened to this book on my iPod and thought it was OK. I liked the history and would like to read more online to see how much of the plot centered around historical facts. I did not care for the majority of the characters - they were rather unlikeable, especially the divorced couple on the search for the amber panels the Nazis looted. The first chapters were tough to stomach, telling of horrors in the concentration camp. This is my first Steve Berry novel.

Kept me on my toes. Not only is the plot interesting, there's also a history aspect that I didn't realize I would enjoy this much!
