Off to a decent start, excited to read the rest

This was a good start to a new series! I’m very intrigued by the world and the thought out into the history of the fantasy world is pretty good. It’s definitely a solid start but I was left wanting in a few areas.

The beginning, for example, seemed very rushed. I thought the breeding house would have been a bit more significant so the fact that it’s only there for like, two short pages was disappointing. Then the first couple of days under the mountain seemed pretty rushed as well. Wren’s transition from timid and meek also seemed to come out of nowhere. I would have expected her to struggle with her assertiveness a lot more considering she had been a slave. While I’m happy to see how her character grew in this first part, the way that she got there just seemed disjointed.

Benedict was also incredibly hot and cold. I like that to a degree, but he was pretty extreme in the beginning. I like the other two men though, and I think the author did a great job really making them feel primal and dangerous. It really adds to the whole draken characterization.

The other thing that bothered me is that a few scenes came across as very cliche. Sure, there’s some typical tropes in here and that’s all fine; they are tropes for a reason, but after the battle in the end it turned into a “and everyone stood up and clapped” moment. It’s not so much the fact that it happened, it was just the way it was written out and described. While the writing as a whole is ok, there were moments like this where the flow and pacing made everything feel off.

Overall, however, I’m still very intrigued by the plot and I really want to see more of the RH. For those of you who like spicy, there are 3 or 4 explicit open-door scenes but they are relatively short and not overly descriptive. It’s definitely primal though since they’re, you know, drakens. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!

About a slave getting “kidnapped” by darkens because they need a female to birth down drakens or smt
I heard it’s an rh and don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of rh but I’m so confused on how those 3 men are gonna get along

It’s probably me but I’m so lost

Idk what going on rn I confuse the characters all the time

Not for me but I would definitely recommend to fantasy loving friends

I feel like this book fell kind of flat. It follows Wren and her journey into discovering and meeting the lost race of the Drakens and their king Benedict. It also involved two other males Kieren and Ronan.  Despite this, I didn’t really feel like I knew any of the characters- they were all very one dimensional and lacked personality. The relationships felt rushed and the plot was kind of repetitive and predictable. This book ends with a cliffhanger however I only won’t be picking up the next one due to lack of interest.

Writing was a bit non-coherent, there was missing plot lines, and things weren’t fully developed/fully explained to make sense.
