Robin Hobb will come to your house while you're feeling sad about the world, hug you and kiss you on the forehead to give you some hope that everything is going to be ok. Then she will set fire to your house and burn it down. But hey, At least your teddy bear made it out of the fire! It's badly burned and nearly unrecognizable but at least it made it out right? Right?

Anyway, this is a great book and I'd highly recommend it to anyone that read the first book in the series. A couple plot points kinda go nowhere, but the events and progression of the story more than make up for it. The book makes you feel like you're in a pressure cooker without a closed vent constantly waiting for someone to open it.

Coming in with high expectations, it's sad to say I was slightly disappointed with this book. The political situation and the stakes captured my attention, but I think my annoyance with Fitz trumped my experience. Fitz was just a dumb lil boy who needed to be taught the same lesson over and over again until it clicked far too late. The repetition made me feel like it was all pseudo-progress and he was fumbling to catch up to the game around him. I do think Fitz's boyishness was a major theme of this book, but oh how I was annoyed with some many of his choices.

All this to say, I still want to continue with the trilogy! Robin Hobb's writing is just so enrapturing, and generally, I just want to know more: about the world and its history, about the wit and the skill, about Fitz and his role as the catalyst.
