After my third reread I’ve found even more of interest in this book. Rererereview forthcoming.
(Uh also disclaimer too that there are very uncomfortable and prejudiced aspects to Fitzgerald and his writing which must be acknowledged before praising his work).

unfortunately this book didn't match my expectations but was a decent read from reading 700+ page books though!

Truly stellar philosophical Bildungsroman that still rings true a century later

He stretched out his arms to the crystalline, radiant sky. "I know myself," he cried, "but that is all."

My Kindle app informs me I highlighted 60 passages while reading. I've reread so many passages already that when I flicked to a random point in the 9+ hour audiobook on YouTube I could finish the quote. Amory Blaine is every emotion and idea I've ever experienced. I love every single line of this book.

3.5/5 stars (goodreads doesn’t do half so i’ll just round down whoop)
made me think a lot, especially near the end.
i think the main downfall of this novel is that the writing is almost too beautiful. it kept me reading rather than being absorbed into the story.
i failed to truly care about any of the characters.
but it’s a beautifully written book and one that i can see myself re reading in the future.
edit i made it 2.5 stars instead whoops haha
