The Invisible Library by Genevieve is a fantasy mystery about a reality with alternate universes where the Library’s purpose “is to preserve humanity from either absolute reality or absolutely unreality.” The Library interconnects all these alternates and the Librarians monitor and maintain balance. Irene is a lower-level Librarian who travels to alternate universes on Library missions—which have unexpected difficulties and murders.

If this were a movie, it would be an action-comedy.

This is an adventure mystery about... a secret library. There are dragons, fae, alternate dimensions, and a  Holmesian detective. What's not to like?

I started this book in late April and here it is, July 11th, and I am finally DONE with this book. SO....the problem is...I had soo much trouble getting into this book. I'm usually a magnet for books about bookshops and libraries. This had so much potential to be deeply thrilling. But I struggled to get through the first 30-50% of this book. Then it somehow got easier!

I can't even tell you WHY it was so hard. I just did not feel the hook, the bait, or whatever it is that I'm supposed to be looking for in this book. Kai and Irene sound like lovely characters overall, but they weren't anything spectacular to me. Same goes for the other characters such as Vale, Alberich, Bradamant, Dominic Aubrey, and the rest.

If there are any sequels, I hope that it is a better setup than this one.

Fun way to pass the time! Really unique ideas. Lots of ambiguous things I chose not to look at too closely. Not sure if it’s intentional as this is a first book.

This is a very fun read. And a very addicting world with a lot of interesting characters. The writing flows nicely and most everything is easily understood. The world building is very good considering world building needed to be done for two worlds. The book starts of with a strong chapter and in my opinion stays pretty steadily strong all of the way through. I will say a few parts were a bit predictable. I saw them coming even if I didn't know exactly how they may occur. The characters all had their own voice and felt very distinct, even if a little bit stereotypical for the type of characters they are. The plot was well done and it started of strong with the villain they faced, so I'm quite intrigued to see what comes next and how in future books the villain (Alberich) will play a role, or if he even does play a role outside book one.
All in all the was a great book. It has what most book lovers want in a book: books, library, spies, great detective, a murder mystery, a villain who is easy to handle, a real villain, supernatural creatures, etc.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in it. It was a fun read and I'm very much looking forward to book two.

Ohhhhh this was such a good book. I couldn't put it down at all, and actually had to be stopped from reading it during dinner timewith the family as well.

All the characters were written so well, and it makes sense for the secondary characters to be fleshed out so, given what's happening in the next part of the series. I'm very excited!

Also, totally noticed some UST between
SpoilerIrene and Bradamant
,
SpoilerKai for Irene?
and
SpoilerKai and Vale
. Interested to see what happens in the next books, considering there's 4 more in the series! Anything can happen.

Also, this is the first book in a while that I've thought would make a very good visual as well. Make it a film!!
