Finally made my way through the second volume. I did a re-read of volume 1 then jumped directly into this one. I feel largely the same about the series so far. It’s a very comforting read for me and just all around cozy. If you enjoyed the first volume you will likely enjoy this one as well since it follows a similar structure and continues the slice of life style narrative.
The new characters introduced and previous characters being expanded upon really worked for me and I’m glad to see everything progressing.
I will be continuing the series but I’ve realized that this series falls under my “break in case of emergency” book so I’ll get to volume 3 when the glass needs to be broken. All around still really loving this series

The main highlight of this volume for me was Aira’s short backstory reveal—the detail that she went along with the prince because he reminded her of how her parents treated her was compelling. However, I couldn’t help but mentally compare it to the anime adaptation. The prince and his cohorts feel like little more than one-note cutouts meant to be rude to Sei, while they’re much more fleshed out in the anime. As a viewer, you still disagree with his reasoning but understand why he can’t back down. None of that nuance is present in the light novel. There’s also moments that just feel silly, like the prince being charmed by Aira’s single tear. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the adaptation is better than the original. Being able to actually watch what is happening instead of being told about it in an after-the-fact passive tone solves most of the issues that I have with these novels.

3.5. It's the same sort of fluffy pleasant read as the first book, but Aira and Kyle just felt a bit flat to read. Or maybe glossed over, maybe? But Yuri, the Grand Magus, is so fun to read. Overall it's a tad weaker because it's less focused than the first book, but it's a nice read still.
