Second biography. Very long and verbose it only covers 10 years of his life. Could have used an editor with a sharp knife.

A lovely insight into the life of Stephen Fry. Both relatable and surprising, Fry keeps the reader close as he walks down memory lane. Name drops feel as shocking to Fry himself and so not remotely jarring for the reader. A lovely ode to studenthood, radio, theatre, and all creative who come together to make joy for audiences.

Previous to reading this book, I did not need to be convinced of Stephen Fry's exemplary self presentation in a world where 'perfection' is the goal of so many. This book simply furthers my opinion that he is one of the most self conscious, humble, self deprecating celebrities in the media world. And to bear those characteristics in such a world is noble and brave. He is an inspiration.

Basically if you you like Stephen Fry you'll love this book if you don't then it's probably not for you. It takes up his story just as he is leaving school to go to Cambridge and ends around the time of Blackadder II. It is very amusing, honest and paints a vivid picture both of Cambridge during the time he was there but also the 80's UK comedy scene. Lots of hilarious bon motes and Fry witticisms, and an incredible quick read too. If you are a fan of his I recommend.

Becomes a bit self-indulgent - a list of the famous people he met. Teases a cocaine addiction on the final page (presume he goes into it in the subsequent book) and refuses to mention how bipolar disorder affected his life.
