Not much backstory on any of the characters or the world but a cute story full of magic and spies.

I thought the book was cute and the story with Miss Annis was sweet. I liked the story and I wanted to know more with more detail and additions. Over all a cute book to read. The only reason why I didn’t give the book a high rating was because I thought the book was a bit cliche and Millie shows up out of no where to help Annis and become the name. I also didn’t like the name Annis. Also the plot twist.... was so obvious I didn’t know why Annis didn’t figure it out sooner...It was short I I did like it overall.

I think if I could I'd give this book a solid 2.5 stars. It was a pretty quick read, but there were some parts that were just a little too predictable. Annis, Cassia, and Millie all had their proto-feminist moments, but there were also often times I wanted to smack them.
Fun but occasionally frustrating.

Great premise, great period of time, but...the book had both too much going on and not enough explanation of what was going on. Random scene changes and abrupt passages of time abounded. I loved the strong female characters of the older generation of women.

I did end up enjoying this book but stuck with three stars because I found that the action moved rather slowly. Based on the title, I was hoping to see more murder, magic, and fashion sooner rather than later. I felt it didn’t really get interesting until the last third of the book. I also didn’t care for the main character, Annis, much until the end of the book and much preferred Millie. The last third of the book was good though and I enjoyed the ending.

2.5. I was really looking forward to this one and still think it is would be a fun romp from some readers, but thought the overall plot, flat main characters, and somewhat confusing regency tone of the novel made it slow and hard to get through.

I really enjoyed this book! The writing style and plot are super unique- think Legally Blonde for spies. And the sheer amount of references is absolutely awesome. If regency books are your thing, this is the ultimate one (it has quite a few characters from other novels). I had so much fun reading this and I would love to check out future books from this author!

This is fun but I think it might have taken on too much with the historical setting, fantasy elements, and spies. The character cameos were also . . . odd. Objectively this is very fun but it might just have veered a bit too close to silly for me. Or it might be my mood. I also found Annis a bit vapid and often not as clever as she thought she was which doesn't work when she's supposed to be setting herself up as a dynamo would-be spy.
