Hi. So as a person on the ace spectrum, when I started reading this book it seemed pretty clear to me that Skye was also aroace but didn't realize it (her experimentation with boys along with the description that she felt nothing when performing sexual/romantic acts). Now, it's not like I expected this to be a really good portrayal of an ace character (I'm not even sure if I would expect Hoover to know what ace means) but I also didn't expect this book to be so out-and-out acephobic. Like, acephobia exists but you don't really see it to quite this degree and if you're going to be acephobic, you really have to reach for it.

Early in the novel, when Skye is speaking with her best friend about her attraction to Dean, her best friend says smth like "thank goodness. I'd've been fine if you were a lesbian or into crusty old men, but if you were never into anybody? That's where I'd draw the line"

And then the whole crux of the book. I mean, if you haven't read it, check the common trigger warnings, and guess why Skye is asexual, cause some of them are definitely the reason.

Yeah anyway this book is acephobic bye
