Love this account of an African American family’s experience during the Great Depression. The math Marshall and his mom use to solve a raffle riddle (measurement, multiplication, and addition) provide additional opportunities for teachers to make connections throughout the day.

Fun story of a Depression era contest won by the resourceful use of math. Would make a good cross-curricular readaloud during a lesson on estimating.

This Great Depression story integrates proportions and measurement into the plot making this a perfect read for young children. The author adds some great details on life during the 1930s too.

This was OK-a nice story but too much going on. There was the depression, equality, and math skills and no one topic was touched on enough to really be explored.

A children's book about a black family during the Depression! And it talks about math! Awesome!
