[relectura]

This book wasn’t scary...but it was very unsettling. I thought I wouldn’t like the writing style but I was presently surprised by how quickly I flew through this! This is my first Stephen King novel and so far I’m really excited to continue!

It was a book. Not great, not bad.

As a teenage girl, I don't think King should keep writing about teenage girls. Both It and Carrie just feel weird and wrong when they rely on those characters (an annoyance in It, a huge problem in Carrie), and any immersion that could exist is broken when you are forced to stop by reading the most unrealistic bs that you've seen in a while. And yeah, I know I'm reading a book about a girl with telekinetic powers that kills her entire town, but I would like for the people killed to act like actual people.
Okay, I'm being a little unfair. Most of the character's actions felt realistic and if it weren't for one scene, I'm sure I'd felt like they were real people. Which scene? You know which one. It's probably one of the big annoyances in King's life, people asking why the hell he wrote it. But I think he deserves to be annoyed if that's what happens.
Again, as a teenage girl (yes, I'm using this as a badge, but I think I have a right to), I just can't believe other girls would do what they did. Maybe one or two, but not a full class of just normal people. What happened wouldn't be funny. Baffling maybe, but not funny. And seeing those girls act so weirdly and so not like girls just...broke some of the magic for me. I guess I just wish the story had started some other way.

Besides that, the book was fine. I already knew what was going to happen, because it is Carrie and I don't live under a rock, but even if I didn't, the book told me pretty much everything from the beginning. It is a narrative style that I usually enjoy, but I can't say it made the book any better.
All in all, it was an okay read. Not groundbreaking or life-changing, but it didn't feel like a waste of time. That's more than I can say for most debut novels.
