Did I have a tremendous amount of fun reading it? YES.
Some parts may seem heavy-handed, and all the Spice Girls reference may not age well, sure. I maintain my five stars, if only because I thoroughly enjoy this novel - which I read entirely within the course of one day and two train journeys. The characters are interesting, the queer rep pretty good, the you-know-who tackles feel great, and most of all I really loved the story and the universe it is set in. Also hands down one of the best (or most fun) closing lines ever.

I gave it 4 stars because I loved some of the characters and hated others, which shows it was good writing. There was a lot of tension and I loved the world building. I want to know more about the witches’ history.
I didn’t give it 5 stars because the pacing at the beginning took some getting used to. It was a bit slow to start.

Dealing with coming out, queer identity and also transphobia and homophobia this book is very well written by an own voices author.
It also openly discussed race issues in parliament especially in the uk and I can only say this is accurate to real life - I love how it questioned what people haven’t been willing to change in the past. In the name of making their world more intersectional. With a smashing ending I can’t wait for the next book and shocked by who the villain turned out to be.
