What an incredible journey! Not the usual type of book I prefer to read, but I'll give anything by Colleen Hoover a shot! The blurb for this book really drew my attention. A story about a mother and her teenage daughter struggling to navigate life after a tragic loss pulled on my heart strings.

This book had so much emotion and drama. I honestly had no idea where the story was going to go from one page to the next. Little bits of uncertainty kept popping up and navigating you away from whatever conclusions you thought you'd drawn. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse... it did! I truly appreciated the authenticity of this story. The realistic emotions, reactions, decisions that the characters faced and made were completely believable.

It's been a LONG time since I've absolutely HATED characters like I did in this book. My heart absolutely broke for Morgan, Clara and Jonah. It cracked little by little, fully broke apart onto the floor and then was crushed with a sledge hammer as the story continued to progress. The depth of betrayal, heartbreak, vulnerability and raw emotion that the author stitched into this book was incredible. As a reader, I felt like I was right there in the thick of it with these characters. I felt their despair and pain down to my core. I might have even gotten a Nebraska headache too!

The love and comfort that both Morgan and Clara found was incredible. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect outcome for either of them with their choice of who's warm embrace they sought refuge in. Miller was one of the most well written, young adult male characters I've ever read. Jonah was such a quiet and reserved, yet stable foundation for Morgan.

The way Colleen wrapped up the book was everything I could have hoped for! Every single thing I was worried about, angry about, unsure of, was addressed and taken care of exactly how I wanted it to be. As a reader, that left me so fulfilled at the end of the read. My heart and mind couldn't take any more curve-balls or loose ends!

Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

/read in audiobook format/
(Clara's narrator was amazing, Morgan's I didn't like so much)

The weakest CoHo book she's published in a long time.
If you are just starting with her books, please don't start with this one.

If you decide not to read it, check out this amazing out-of-context quote that won't mean anything to you but I chocked on laughter while I was listening to it ->
Spoiler
Miller starts to mumble an apology. "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Grant. I thought you were just one of Clara's friend. You...you look really young."
My mother is staring daggers at me, ignoring him.
"She is young," I say to Miller. "She had me when she was seventeen."
My mother doesn't miss a beat as she finally addresses Miller. "We're very fertile women. Be careful."

Non-spoilery stuff:
- My main problem is that when I'm reading YA I want to read almost entirely about characters that age and vice-versa so in this case out of the two main couples, I cared only for one.
- Clara is a brat and if I was behaving like that in front of my parents I'd probably be grounded for life #balkanparents
- Miller, the love interest, is a real cutie and even though he isn't very different from her other YA male characters, he is unproblematic and kinda deserved better.
- predictable
- too simple, vague, unlike her other books, this one missed deeper exploration of some difficult topics (I'm not saying that every book has to have it, but even the ones that were here
Spoiler(infidelity, deaths in the family, dubious consent, drug use)
were done poorly. Without them, this felt like cheesy chick-lit, with better writing, and lots of drama)
- The ending was cute.

Spoiler
Let's see what else I didn't like:
- I feel like Chris and Jenny's affair was there just to justify Morgan and Jonah's affair so that we root for them.
In addition to that, I could see more chemistry between Morgan and Jonah in the past than in the present storyline.
If their romance was completely thrown out of the book, I'd probably like it more.
- Why didn't she read those letters??? Oh, let me tell you why. Because Colleen was lazy to write something good in this book.

*****Spoiler Alert*****

An easy read for sure, I liked the two-person narration. I liked the characters and enjoyed following their story. This was a realistic depiction of how complicated love can be and also how tough parenting can be. I was honestly disappointed the letters weren’t read and there were no real answers to the affair but I guess ir wouldn’t have added much to the story. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the ending.

Orange you going to read this?!

Epically awesome story about love. Absolutely worth reading, even with the Nebraska headache I got from all the tears I shed. Colleen Hoover delivers a beautiful love story once again!

Unpopular Opinion

If you like Stephanie Meyer you probably like Colleen Hoover. Both write books with sketchy characters who don't communicate and behave like brats. In _Regretting You_ the daughter is an arrogant and antagonistic little brat, the mother is a rug, the father and aunt are cheating liars, nobody tells anyone the truth and Miller and Jonah shouldn't have to put up with any of them. The daughter is so busy making assumptions that she destroys her life and makes everyone miserable and the mother refuses to actually tell her daughter the truth making everyone miserable. I struggled to finish the book and only did so as a part of a reading challenge.

“I’m worried we got it wrong”

I adored this book! Don’t let my rating discourage you, I’m just picky. Regardless, these are the strongest, most relatable characters she’s given me so far & held love you could CLEARLY feel. Stunning book.

3 ⭐️s because I’m a picky person.. despite everything(!) I love, I also can’t ignore the pace of the book being awkward to me & how it felt like we rushed the ending. I will always recommend this book & it will probably remain one of my absolute favorites of Hoover’s regardless of the flaws I found— it is a powerful story & a quick read.

This was such a page turner. Found some of the characters (Clara) irritating at times, okay most of the time, but thank goodness for Miller. Other than that really enjoyed this story.

Spoiler:
A little annoyed we never got to find out about the letters though …
