This was actually amazing! Such an interesting universe and the main character was so fierce and awesome!! I cannot wait for the sequel!

This book was a bit bland until the 30% percent mark when M-Bot was introduced and they are absolutely the best thing about this book! The audiobook narrator gave them a Scottish accent which was perfect and added to the comedic effect of the dialog.
My only complaint is I wish I’d read this with my eyes so I didn’t miss a single word but I’m in a huge reading slump and haven’t read a book in 6 weeks (waaaah). This was a read for bookclub so I decided to pick up the audio version just so that I can complete it. It’s so frustrating that I’ve been wanting to read this book all year, influenced my bookclub to read it, and then when it came to the crunch, didn’t feel like reading it! Damn you, emotions!
The reason why I was so keen to read this is because I’ve never read anything by Brandon Sanderson and I’ve heard he is the modern master of fantasy and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I really really really loved his writing style. It is organic in the way it flows and weaves in the world building. It balances plot and character development and the concept is simple but intriguing. I am officially a Brandon Sanderson convert and I’m keen AF to read his more popular adult works. I’m actually tempted to make my entire Goodreads 2020 goal to read exclusively Brandon Sanderson books. I’m not even exaggerating.
The audiobook narrator is English, not my preferred accent to listen to. The sample didn’t inspire me, but I pushed through and listened on 1x speed and she was actually fantastic! Really clear, easy to understand. Great voices and great comedic timing. I feel like I’ve tuned out a bit here and there and missed some crucial parts. Perhaps I’ll wait for the next book to be released and do a reread and a three book binge. Hopefully this slump ends by then!
Because I feel like I’ve missed some critical points, the ending didn’t wow me. Neither did the start and this is why I am giving 4 stars. Actually more like 4.5.
