Can the Prince and Princess learn to trust each other?

Lis's secret is out, but Prince Remi can't bring himself to kill her. What's worse is the discovery that he too has magic. Despite the prophecy that insists the two must work together lest the prince destroy the empire, his distrust of her and her many secrets combined with her hesitance to love him causes him to learn from other magics in the city.

The story continues to twist and turn and weave magical wonders throughout everything. I found myself grieving for the goodness and innocence that Prince Remi was losing while hoping that somehow the princess could find a way to reach him. This second book also shows more of the violent side of magic, raising the question of whether or not it is inevitable? For Wei Song and Yang it was not, but nearly everyone felt their magic lose control at some point, whether they had willed it or not. Sides are chosen and it is surprising to see who follows who in the end. The new priestess is also a mystery, as is the oracular child. Will the prince and princess find a way to work together or will they destroy each other? This remains to be seen.
