I really liked this. In a lot of ways it reminded me of Jane Austen or Middlemarch in that there is a romance, but it's also so much more than just a romance. It's witty with a few cringey characters that are so much fun to hate. And there is also social commentary. As I do with many new-to-me classics, I read Spark Notes alongside it and found it helpful.

Such a cute, fun read. The characters are real and relatable in a rare way for the books of this time. And the romance!!!! adorable

Not gonna lie, there were times I laughed out loud. Forsters social commentaries were actually a lot of fun. I had to keep reminding myself the story takes place in the early 1900’s.  But it seems something’s never change. George takes to much liberty with Lucy, Cecil is a horrible man-splainer and the reverends are trying to fix everything for Lucy (and she lets them). She honestly felt a bit like a doormat from time to time. But, finally!, at the 80-90% mark, she came to her senses.
Characters aside, I liked the descriptions on Florence, London and Windy Corner.

He said: “It is our last chance. I shall do all that I can”

I love this book. I love it more than the movie which I seen before I even thought about reading the book. I was caught off guard by how well it came across and how willingly one gets caught up in the story. I can’t say enough how much I liked it.

"But I do love you - surely in a better way than he does. Yes - really in a better way.
I want you to have your own thoughts, even when I hold you in my arms.
Lucy, be quick - there's no time for us to talk now - come to me as you came in the spring and
afterwards I will be gentle and explain. I have cared for you since that man died.
I cannot live without you."

oh. my. god. one of the most beautiful classics i have ever read.
