I had some issues with the earlier installments (namely, the lack of female characters grated), but this final book really delivered. Solid ending that wrapped up the most critical loose ends.
One thing I really appreciate about this author (across the series) is knowing when the audience doesn't really need to see a full scene in detail, especially if the peak of a battle already occurred or if a fairly by-the numbers conversation is about to occur: do we really need 50 predictable pages covering it? No, we do not, and I appreciate being spared that. It can make other books drag. Another bonus is the author assumes the audience is smart enough to catch up with the world and characters with each installment; I read another YA series where fully 20 pages would be dedicated to re-explaining ALL the world building concepts. Instead, here the audience is only reminded of plot-critical events when they occur, and the author otherwise assumes the audience is smart enough to catch up.
Overall, there was a nice, fitting end to this series... unlike the CW shows I've been comparing it to.

So I finally finished the book, after a ridiculously long time (I'm going to blame it on the fact that I was listening to the Audio book, but let's be honest, my reading speed has slowed down a lot here lately.... stupid adulting, getting in the way of what I really want to do...) and it was so good. Lots of things tied up nicely, I'm glad to see that Miysis made nice with Piper and the gang (kind of? Maybe? Hopefully) I will admit, that at one point during the big battle, I had a bit of a panic attack, because for some reason I thought that my sweet smol bean Lyre had gotten himself killed. Seriously, I was going into panic mode major. Until I remembered that dear old Lyre is going to be starring in his very own spin off, so obviously he was going to be fine.

A very fitting finale - it got to the halfway point and I was flummoxed as to how everything would resolve, but I needn't have worried. I'm maybe a tad disappointed that the resolution is quite sequel baiting, I was hoping for a neater conclusion, but I'm looking forward to reading the Lyre prequel series soon.
