A very fun read, troperific in all the right ways.

I really liked this... it has that same tongue-in-cheek meta self-referential attribute that I like so much in The Princess Bride. It was funny and exciting and the dialogue was clever. This was a fresh and original voice and story... looking forward to the next!

A very fun and light-hearted adventure. Absolutely top notch humor and great for fans of snappy dialogue and pacing.

A fun read. Not a serious book at all. If Piers Anthony wrote a book where Lara Croft tries to hang up her adventure boots but forces conspire against her, it may be like this....except fewer puns. I liked it.

If the protagonist in the story cannot get excited over the adventure, or the events in the book, then why should I? I get it, she is jaded and bored, but at some point there should be at least an inkling of some sort of emotional reaction besides utter contempt for everything and everyone.

Aside from me disliking the lack of investment on the part of Constance, I have to say the narrative was lacking in all sorts of other places as well. Characters were introduced for no reason, not even witty banter, like Thelma and Byron. Others were merely there to push the plot forward, like Hiro and Lucas. But even those that were in the narrative to allow for Constance to have an emotional connection and allow her character to grow had the depth that could only be measured using the Planck length. That is to say they were super duper shallow. (Oh look, I am putting more effort into this review than Constance did into saving her friends/the universe/and everything). Lastly, I struggled to imagine these people as emotionally mature individuals. They were supposed to be at least in their mid 30s, Tia is divorced and Constance has lived lifetimes of adventure, yet they speak and act like teenagers.

At this point someone will have to ask me why I kept reading the book if I found absolutely nothing in it to catch my interest. My answer is that I kept hoping that I would finally be let in on the joke and we would all have a laugh at this book making fun of overused tropes. But that wink-wink nudge-nudge moment never came and I just suffered through the book reading a few pages a day.

I am not touching the rest of the series. You cannot make me.
