I enjoyed The Tobacco Wives, however, I think it should be classified as a young adult book.

An interesting read about a North Carolina tobacco town. Maddie is helping her aunt make dresses for the Tobacco wives. She comes across information about the affect of smoking on pregnancy and babies.

I really enjoyed the unique setting of this book, it’s a great representation of post WWII historical fiction, from a setting that I’m not as familiar with. This one follows Maddy, a seamstress who starts to uncover and unravel the dangers behind tobacco usage, especially with women. I found parts to be really exciting, especially the back half of the book as we were leading up to the climax and the gala. At times, I felt it to be a touch slow, and Maddy seemed to lack depth - she was written as a 15-year old protagonist and at times, it felt like she was trying to be an adult and get into adult things, but it fell a little flat. Overall, I loved the setting behind this one and it had some nice shining moments.
