Not the overwhelmingly strong experience the first one was—leans on the “you” meta-ness a little too much and is weirdly short. However, this is still a fascinating world that doesn’t pull any punches and has incredibly drawn characters.

Great book, brutally depressing, I was going through some stuff and needed to stop. I'll try it again under other circumstances.

It was good, but it needed more. whilst I do understand that it is to prepare for the ending and answer questions from the 1st book ( [b:The Fifth Season|19161852|The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth, #1)|N.K. Jemisin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1386803701l/19161852._SY75_.jpg|26115977] ), it needed something to tip it over into four stars. Giving it three stars isn't a bad thing, in my opinion. One thing I did enjoy was nassun's story, I loved her part (other than bitching about her mum).
