What lovely, heartfelt story of friendship, and a touching glimpse into the lives of mid-20th century lives. I listened to this quick, darling little audiobook while doing a puzzle, and it was the perfect ambiance to get lost in the charming letters between friends. Wishing for the charm and personal touch of letters to become the norm once again <3

This book is a very wholesome chronicle of a pen pal friendship that lasted 20 years. The way that Helene comes to deeply care for the booksellers, particularly Frank Doel & family, and vice versa is very sweet to experience secondhand.
This short epistolary memoir was the perfect pleasant read during what has turned out to be a sad and chaotic month for me personally.

These letters are so charming and funny. I read the book in an afternoon. It's the kind of story you don't have to get too invested in, which I liked as a change of pace. That being said, I found myself weirdly fond of the characters and their care for each other even from across an ocean as strangers. I really enjoyed this one.
