This was a good first book in a series in terms of setting us up in this world. We got hints of future characters, places, and plot devices for the rest of the series, but as a standalone, this was a little boring. There wasn't a ton of plot, and the most action that happened was a fade to black moment.

The relationship was very insta-love, but sweet. It was a grumpy sunshine type of relationship. Danny was the cinnamon roll, while Wyn was this ancient evil. I liked that Wyn was awkward and that they were both new to romance/relationships.

This definitely is monster smut. Wyn is humanoid, but not human. They don't just have wings or horns or tail. Their body is different, so the smut is a little different.

From what i've heard, this series just gets better and better as it goes, so I'm excited to continue to dive into this.

I am so fucking emotional over this book right now and I did not expect that AT ALL????

Like WOW. I have seen so many people talk about this series and I had just never gotten around to starting it. Well here I fucking am, late to the party, but so happy to be here.

I can't believe this was a debut?? The world is so impressively fleshed out. Very post-apocalyptic/dystopian vibes. Very unique monster lore. The sweetest fucking characters. Despite the setting and plot, it was just so warm and tender?? Until we got to the 75% mark and then Lily Mayne decided to send me on an emotional SPIRAL because what the fuck?? (I loved it though.)

*My only complaint is in the form of questions regarding one of the major incidents that happen in the last quarter of the book. I would have liked more explanation on page rather than getting the events secondhand.

Obviously I'm going to be reading Edin next because that giant purple teddy bear is my new favorite.

A surviving soldier finds himself on the run with the monster he's supposed to hunt. I really liked both MCs - Danny is brave, optimistic with a sense of honor. Wyn, despite being murderous and stuff, is sweet, kinda shy and has a very protective side. There's good progress of their friendship but the transition to romantic/sexual feelings felt a teeny bit abrupt. Still, the chemistry is great and their romance is very sweet and fluffy for a dystopian world.

Wyn is gentle and really mindful of Danny's needs. They're lonely souls who found kindred spirits in each other, and they're not afraid to be vulnerable. There's a lot of love and support for each other. Lots of very interesting and steamy monster sex, but I'd prefer less smut and more sweetness. The world building and plot are quite solid despite occasional lulls.

I read this based on a recommendation and I wasn’t disappointed. It has the perfect mix of love, sex, action, and character development. I wasn’t sure about it at first because there’s a lot of military mentions, but it was amazing! I’m already so excited to read the next story! I’d highly recommend this if you like reading original stories and concepts, specifically about a monster apocalypse.

This was an unexpected delight to read! I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book when I first saw it but I was very surprised with how this book turned out!

The dystopian setting that this book was set in was a setting i ate up the more i read it! I loved to see that a threat other then the typical zombie actually ended the world. The lore of the monsters, how they each looked different, their abilities, and why the more humanoid ones were here in the first place was very fascinating to learn. How some of the building were delapated and run down showing a picture of how the world used to be before.

The romance between Danny and Wren was filled with such great chemistry and sexual tension. Those scenes were spicy as well yet very well written. The descriptions of how these two thought of each other were amazing. I liked how they learned more about each other as the book went on eventually forming a bond that was beautiful.

I definitely want to read more of this series and more books from Lily Mayne in general! I can't wait to read this story from Wren's perspective, I'm dying to know how he thought about all this.
