Although I'm pretty sure I was too dumb to understand the magic system, I truly loved this story. It never got boring, so I didn't want to stop reading. It made me feel as if I was in the story.

I immediately liked the mc, Ananna. She is fierce and funny.

The slow burn romance was very well written! There were so many times where I felt just as mad or hurt or happy as the characters.

But because I sometimes didn't have any clue what was going on (because I'm dumb like that), I rate this duology 4 stars.

I don’t know, I kind of expected something different and not gonna lie, had a hard time with that southern accent writing, because I‘m not native. And I felt like the two main characters had no chemistry… just my opinion though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ok so you see the thing is I had like super high expectations for these books, and yeah they were ok, but not nearly as good as I was expecting them to be. The book starts off full throttle, our main character is forced into marriage and she don't like it so she peaces out. And, understandably, this makes the other family mad. So, being reasonable, they send an assassin to kill her. Yep
And so she just so happens to save his life, yeah the life of a man literally right about to kill her, and they're suddenly bonded. Just like that. No real explanation. Just bam. Lives tied together. And the rest of the book(s) is about them traveling about trying to get rid of this curse, which by the way is an impossible curse. Now, the adventures they have is pretty fun and interesting, and there are lots of creative elements that are within this part of the story. Now my main problem is this: the curse they have is supposed to be impossible to break, but they really don't have that much trouble breaking said curse. I would have liked to see a bit more struggle and character growth.
But yeah, overall I give this series a 3.5 because honestly I did like it, I just was let down because I had expectations that this book didn't meet

I don’t believe it would be leading astray by telling you to read this book. Ananna is a strong female lead, Naji is a wonderful, broody love interest, and Marjani is the noblewoman turned pirate turned lover of a queen that we all deserve. Read the full review here

Really enjoyed it! It was magical!
But i wish it was a bit longer. Maybe another 100pages to explain the villain...
what I loved the most was the pirate ship battles! Epic!
