A novel of exploring a lost father figure within the word of "Underground" music in NYC. Takes place from the POV of a 17-year-old daughter of two once famous musicians. The music sets the scene, with references to everyone from the Talking Heads and Otis Redding to Bikini Kill and Nirvana, but the relationships drive the story. Simple, easy, fun read.

"We were a poorly drawn triangle that day in the car, the angles between us shifting, but always adding up to the same thing."
"I felt like someone shut a stereo off in the middle of a really good song."
"Sometimes the heaviest things are the ones that don't weigh much at all."
A quick YA read. Not great, not horrible. Enjoyed the references to the 90s alternative music scene.

Do you really ever understand your parents and their motivations?
Phoebe is 17. Her mom and dad were rock stars in the '90's. Her mom won't talk about it and she hasn't spoken to her dad in 3 years. He's still in the business. Her older sister quit college to pursue music.
This book is about family and growing up and trying to find your own way. I liked the characters and the story was an easy read. There were some issues that were left unresolved but they didn't ruin the story.

I thought this book was really good, until the ending, which was underwhelming. The love story was terrible.. so unconvincing, I couldn't understand what Archer really saw in Phoebe. The plot lines in Phoebe's home town didn't add much and never came to resolution. Or did they?? I don't know how or why Tessa and Phoebe made up.
Also, I think this author has a massive problem portraying the timelines. Time of day, especially. I never knew if it was day or night and just how much time had passed. This book could have been over the course of 2 weeks, or 2 months, I couldn't tell at all.

Phoebe is the 17 year old daughter of former rockstars. I enjoyed her story, but I disliked the multiple timelines. The flashbacks to her parents' romantic and musical beginnings added nothing to the story, and it was confusing that those chapters moved backwards in time for no reason.

Okay, this is really good. The writing is so lyrical, the characters are well-rounded and full of heart!

It was a decent story, but it took forever to get rolling, and ended with so many things unfinished.
