Glad I pushed through

The first 6 chapters were HARD to get through. I stopped reading this book a few times through the beginning, sweating that I wasn't going to continue. I had heard that past chapter 6 or so, it got easier... and it did. In the end I'm glad I pushed through. Watching a man completely break at the seams in search of his missing daughter.... to become who he needed to be to fins answers... it was captivating.

If you can stomach the first few chapters, I recommend this book... but be warned, it's graphic.

I have never been so disgusted by a fictional story as I have this book which is why I felt I needed to rate it so high. I fully skipped chapter 3 and the first half of chapter 5 as I couldn’t stomach it but the story still made complete sense.

This book is filled with very gruesome and descriptive scenes that are definitely not suitable for the faint-hearted.

Let me start by saying I knew what this book was about. And it was brutal. Sickening. I pretty much skimmed chapters 4 - 10 as I couldn't stomach it. It's bad. Horrible. And so truthfully hurtful. It's a very sensitive topic we all shy away from, but it's out there and it happens. 3 stars for neutrality. That is all..

If you have any kind of triggers in any form of fashion, don’t read this. If you visualize things as you read, don’t read this. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Matter of fact, I want to preface this review by saying I didn’t read any of the gore. I skipped over it. I read the dialogue in between. It was heart wrenching enough for the little I did read. I probably wouldn’t have been able to finish it if I did read that stuff honestly. I narrowly made it through. 

There were so many deaths. It was tragedy on top of tragedy so reading this as a parent of three was tough. However, it did spark me to be super vigilant when out with them. I will definitely try to educate my kids to the best do the ability about the horrors of this world. 

I liked that it had a missing person’s case and got me thinking what lengths I would go to if my kid was taken. It did give “Taken” vibes towards the end or maybe that kidnapped movie with Halle Berry.

Literally the most disgusting thing I’ve ever read. The fact that the author thought this subject even needed to be described the way it was, is awful. I don’t mind splatterpunk horror or body horror stories but this goes beyond that. It’s not horror. It’s literally just torture porn with the subject being CHILDREN. It was like someone decided to cram every awful, horrible act into one story and call it “provocative”. Will not be reading anything else by this author, ever.
