I thought it was interesting that Ursa was so smart; she used her imagination and love of astronomy to cope with trauma. Separating herself from her mom’s murder by create a second identity makes sense psychologically and it was an interesting twist. The ending was very satisfying. I was worried Ursa would end of with a foster family that wouldn’t understand her. I also enjoyed Jo and Gabe’s love story. It didn’t feel too rushed and awkward. Gabe’s complicated family secret seemed like a strange addition to the story at first but I realized it helped Jo and Gabe develop courage, empathy, and understanding for others.

Honestly gave one star just for Ursa. I thought she was a sweet child throughout and the only character I actually enjoyed reading about. I couldn't stand Jo at all. She was incredibly hypocritical and very good at making herself the victim in every situation. Her character was also incredibly flip-floppy. By the end, it felt like we were reading about an entirely different character than we started off with. And not in a good, character development way, but more like Jo changed to fit whatever dramatic thing was happening and whatever reaction the author felt like they needed in that moment. For somebody who expected a lot out of people, she never gave much in return. She constantly guilt-tripped Gabe about being upset at finding out he was the child of an affair and tried to make him feel bad for being angry with his family about keeping that from him and for having depression and being somewhat traumatized by the way he found out about the affair and the way he had to keep it secret. That affair totally changed the way he viewed himself, his family, and his place in the family and she gave him absolutely no grace for. And anytime he tried to call her out for her lack of empathy and her hypocrisy, she would throw the fact that her parents had died and that she would give anything to have them again and would let them do anything if only they were still with her back in his face. She called him out multiple times for being unfair and treating her poorly, but never apologized to him for anytime she was the same. Instead, he would have to apologize to how he reacted to her. I honestly was so angry with Jo for most of the book. The ending was the only thing I liked about her and, honestly, that's because she was a completely different character at that point.

THIS BOOK IS ON KINDLE UNLIMITED READ IT NOW - happened to be scrolling through Kindle Unlimited read the description of this book and thought "ehh why not give it a shot?". I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book, it is realistic fiction but surprisingly unique. The characters are so beautifully flawed and I just loved it. As a book on Kindle Unlimited it went above and beyond my expectations. BE WARNED you will not be able to put this book down!!

The author of the book has obviously never experienced mental illness, making her attempt to cover the topic poorly executed. Other than that though, it's a cute book.
