I learned so much about the flaws of our child welfare system through this book. I struggled through the extremely graphic details of the sexual assault scenes though, which makes me wary to recommend it broadly to others.

This was a really great book that showed how flawed our systems are. It was hard for me to get through it. Please read the trigger warnings before reading through certain sections.

Thank you Penguin Random House Audio for the free audiobook. This harrowing memoir isn’t the first critique of America’s stubborn allegiance to a blinkered narrative of individual responsibility obviating the need for social support, but it’s one of the most personal and compelling.
