4.0

Captain Barracuda, one of the most feared pirates, has set his sights on the fabled treasure of Phineas Krane. After years of piecing together clues, he locates it, only to find the treasure chest empty except for a book. Disgusted, he stomps away. The one pirate who can read a little rescues the books and begins to make his way through it. Slowly the other pirates ask to learn to read themselves, and as they do, a world of treasure unfolds before them. Do not worry though, there are plenty of sea battles and pirate adventures to keep the story moving! This exciting homage to literacy masquerading as a rollicking pirate adventure will not only keep readers' interest, but make them eager to seek more treasures found in books. Grades 3 & up. Would make a fabulous classroom read aloud.
