The Zuko-central story I never knew I needed! Having his reign questioned makes for an interesting story, the addition of the spirits makes it feel very close to the show, and I love seeing Zuko’s relationships expanded on; with Mai, Ursa, Kiyi, and even Suki!

After my recent rewatch of ATLA, I was surprised at how little time we actually get with Zuko as part of the Gaang, so it’s refreshing to see some story focussing on him as the good guy.

This review is for the story as a whole, not each part, since I read all three parts back to back.

We're back with the Zuko content! As a mystery, I liked this. Tbh I was surprised when I got to the part where things start to make sense. The Zuko angst was top notch, here we see him try to protect his people when they are under the attack of a vengeful group of spirits and a resistant that wants to bring Ozai back. You know I love me Zuko content, so this was great to see.

*This book is part of my personal reading challenge for the summer 2021, #MHA30for30challenge. The goal is for me to read thirty books from my Kindle so that I can reward myself and buy the thirty volumes of the My Hero Academia manga series that are out so far, to my knowledge.

I had so many derp moments when I got ahead of myself and thought the worst of what was going to happen! Can't wait to read the rest and hopefully see where Zuko/Mai go and what will happen when Azula comes back. This volume definitely felt like the set up to the trilogy so hoping for more "meat" in the next two volumes of Smoke and Shadow!
