I feel really bad for not liking this book more. It had such a light, playful, honest, and feminist vibe. I feel like my dislike stems mostly from the fact that I was expecting something completely different. I wanted something more pop science-y and less autobiographical. But that’s not the book’s fault! I should have read a blurb or something before picking this up.

Regardless, this was a fun read and I really did learn a lot! Unfortunately, due to the fact that this book feels so autobiographical, there was a certain amount of credibility missing and I had to do a lot of fact checking. But maybe that’s a good habit to get into anyways!

Terrible sense of humor. Highlights include facial hair being compared to genocide and grossly disrespecting her husband by calling herself a "chubby chaser." Not enough insight to make up for it.

Really liked this, except I could have done without comments equating being overweight with being unhealthy.

This is by far the funniest book I have read all year - and I have never related to an author so much. Brutally honest, enlightening, and hilarious. I’m glad I came across another gal with a happy trail (and hair in other questionable places). #noshame

Ksiazka bardzo nierowna - pierwsze dwa rozdzialy najslabsze, srodek zajebisty i fascynujacy (zdarzylo mi sie tez pare razy wybuchnac smiechem), ale na koniec znow troche meh - dlatego odejmuje 2 gwiazdki.
Ogolnie warto :)

This was somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me.

On the one hand: The subject matter was gross and fascinating and the author did have some good reflections and insights. Several of the essays were funny and super relatable. And the line: "He said it looked like a horror film where bagel toppings came to life," will forever be burned in my brain.

On the other hand: I repeatedly found myself wishing that the author had gone deeper. The PMS essay was the by far best, precisely because she brought together so many points of view and had some tangents along the way. Other chapters were so superficial they felt like 4-minute general interest reads that Google would recommend with my morning coffee, rather than entries in a hardcover. In particular, I found it frustrating that there were many long interviews with experts that were boiled down into a single sentence and I'd find myself wanting to know more instead of being immediately transitioned to some sort of punchline. Finally, I didn't find that the illustrations added anything to the narrative - if anything they made the whole affair feel "unserious" and I could have done without.
