Really great for a list of interesting books to read, but too much speculation as to how these books might have actually influenced Bowie.

I've listened to a lot of books lately that were not well suited to audio, but this landed just on the right side of that line.
As background, David Bowie released a list of 100 books that were important to him. O'Connell goes through the list and ties each title to an aspect of Bowie's life or work that illustrates his likely interest in the book, ending each with a song to "Read while listening to..." and a suggestion for further reading. In that sense, Bowie's Bookshelf becomes an interestingly disjointed biography of the artist.
The downside of the audio format was that it wasn't easy to stop and make a note of some of the books I'd like to follow up and read. The list, however, is reprinted so many places online ('cause David Bowie) that it isn't really a problem.
Assuming you're at least a casual fan of Bowie, I recommend this book for when you're looking for something interesting that you can easily pick up and put down as time allows.

+: Mijn ‘to read-lijst’ is weer langer geworden.
-: O'Connell schrijft veel in de voorwaardelijke wijs.

I would actually rate this a bit closer to a 4, especially if you are a David Bowie fan. I however, don't really know much about Bowie and I think I digested this book a little too fast. I would otherwise take it a bit slower.
