holy cow I want book 2 like I want to breathe !!!
this book is quite the roller coaster, starting out with a bit of a slow pace filled with world and plot building. but once it takes off, it's a wild ride! and then just when you think things are settling down, she hits you with that LAST LINE OF THE ENTIRE BOOK???
this book is truly so fun. the characters are so solid as they are, but the potential of where they may go is astronomical. I absolutely can't wait to see the payoff of some of the things that were set up in this book.
I loved the academy vibes & the found family within these pages. I love the growth of our FMC. & I absolutely can't wait to see how far she goes!
&& pls...are we just NOT going to talk about EZRA?

The author has decided to pull the book and edit it. So I do not believe it is fair to rate it at this time. I skimmed the last 30ish% of the book, because I want to fully read the new version when it is released. I will say I enjoyed the premise of the story and the world it is set in. I love watching authors grow and cannot wait to read the new version!

I was provided an advanced reader copy for my honest opinion. 4.5 stars. It took me quite a bit to get into this book, but once I did, I forgot I wasn't in the book and had responsibilities of my own. I binge read it and I'm not sorry, except for the massive cliffhanger. The character development was amazing and I loved almost all of them. I wish Kyde wasn't so predictable but I can't fault the author or the MC, because truth be told, he sounds too sexy to resist.

Intriguing story and worldbuilding, with lots of potential, but it could use some more editing.
First of all, I really loved the setting of this story, the magical world that is being created, the different characters we get to meet. It’s a fun take on an academy where elemental magic is being taught. From the very first page you want to know how everything will evolve throughout the story, what will happen to Addie in order to arrive at the events being mentioned in the prologue. Multiple characters are really likeable, others are very easy to dislike, you immediately feel connected to them. The ending also leaves you wanting for more (luckily this story is set out to be a series of books).
However, the writing style wasn’t my cup of tea. It felt like the complete opposite of “show, don’t tell”. This resulted in the story being very descriptive, with too much info dumping yet not enough depth: the information that was being given often felt irrelevant.
In addition, multiple chapters started with sentences like “two weeks later” or “a month has passed”, as if nothing of importance happened in the meantime. This could perhaps be handled in a better way. Now it just felt like it was absolutely mandatory that a full year had to pass between the beginning and the ending of this book.
There were also a few things that didn’t make sense at all, or that were inconsistent with things that were said a few pages earlier.
(I won’t go into more depth with examples to support all these remarks, in order to keep this review spoiler free. But I do have a small list of examples in my head.)
So overall, Justice in Magic is an interesting first instalment, with a lot of potential for the story. But the execution fell a bit flat in my opinion. I think some (extra) editing could help to get even more out of this story.
I received an advanced copy of this book for review.

Justice in Magic by Ky Venn, of which book I received an ARC from the author, has a beautiful blue cover, which makes one curious: a sort of door which leads to a village or castle on a cliff, very mysterious.
The story starts with Adelynn (Addie) who loves to swim and hopes when she becomes Champion, she’ll get a new start after a awful experience. When she starts hearing voices, she finds out she’s not a normal girl and gets to decides what she wants to do: being normal of going off to a magic school. She chooses (of course) to learn about the magic she apparently has. But when a fellow student tells her to explore the darker side of who she is and what she can so, things start to get out of control.
Reading the plot of Justice in Magic makes one think of Harry Potter, but there the simularity ends. Addie is very different from Harry, and so all the other students.
Addie is a wonderful person, you can relate to her and you get sucked into her story. She is strong, independent, but has moodswings thanks to what happened to her, and it’s understandable that therefore she is a bit insecure and follows the bad boy in the story. She learns more about who her real family is too.
The other characters are very well written as well. Some you love and some you hate, some you root for, but there are a few surprises to several of them as well as the story goes along.
The writing style is fine, the story reads wonderful, although it took me some time to get into the story. The worldbuilding is very well done with lots of worlds, histories and explanation and of course magic.
Justice in Magic by Ky Venn is a wonderful fantasy novel, the first book in a series and one I liked. Is has tension, humor, magic, drama and romance. The book ends with a cliffhanger, so you keep on wondering what will happen next until the next book to find out. I think this is a well done debut and recommendable to fantasy readers who love a good story.

TW: mention of past SA and trial
Adelyn just wants to finish high school and go to college. She's ready to move past the difficult past couple years and put it all behind her.
But a mysterious dream reveals that she's not as normal as she thought. Now she has to decide if she wants to learn about her magical side or stay in the human realm. Will she be able to resist the pull of her dark side?
This is a slow burn. The middle is full of Adelyn's school life. Most of the action occurs in the beginning and towards the end.
While most of this could be considered young adult as it follows newly graduated high schoolers, it does have some spice. There's some s3xual tension as well as 1 brief on-page scene.
It ends in a cliff hanger, though it is what I expected to happen throughout the whole book.
I look forward to reading the second book when it comes out.

I enjoyed the world building of this book. It was immersive and thoughtful. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. I’m impatient so the ending left me wanting and needing more.
