There's actually 6 books in this series, but I could only find a compilation of 4 on here. I really liked this series, even more than the Twilight series (if you're going to compare vampire books). The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because the main character is a teenager and acts like one. So she bugged me at times, but overall still a really good series and I would recommend them to anyone!

Forever drawn in and inspired by the badass warrior heroine and her beautifully dangerous friendship with her best friend that she is sworn to protect. The main love interest drew me in immediately and had me falling in love.

In 2021, I decided to start an archive project that covers just about every book I can remember having read since ~2010 because I wanted to see the most complete history of my reading habits from the time I was a young adult reader. If you're seeing this note, it's because what follows is not a proper review, but rather a (most likely very incomplete) brief reflection on what I can remember very far after the fact.

***

I remember rereading these books a lot because they were probably the horniest things on my shelf back in 2010 when I was like 16. This book series was also 1000% the genesis of my age difference, student-professor kink. Side note: I actually just looked it up and LMAO, according to the fan wiki, Dmitri was born in 1990, making him just one year older than my husband (who's only 2 years older than me) and only twenty-four in the first book. When I read these as a teen, I totally pictured him in his 30s!

I don't remember these books well enough to write a real review for them all, but I do remember that I read the book Blood Promise specifically like 5 times and thought it was definitely the best one (it also has probably the least embarrassing cover art). I wish they'd done better with the movie they made with Zoey Deutch, it was horribly miscast and just generally very lame, but it had the potential to be interesting. I feel like Netflix could make a decent edgy teen series out of it.

Another great series I am willing to reread as an adult which says a lot.

The series on the whole pulls you in. The first two books in the series, Vampire Academy and Frostbite, deal with supernatural issues mingled with typical high school problems, but starting with Shadow Kiss, I had a hard time putting these books down. The constantly changing and strained relationships between Lissa and Rose and then Lissa and Dimitri while navigating a landscape of politics and power makes this series a must read.
