I'm afraid this one wasn't my cup of tea. I'm curious to know what Pamela Hansford Johnsons more serious books are like because some of the writing in this was very nice indeed but I'm afraid her comedy was forced and old fashioned. Lots of upper class characters lounging about being pleased with themselves and having "sophisticated" and "witty" conversations. The plot had promise but seemed under-cooked and drifted about aimlessly before finally giving up while certain plot threads started off and then dropped entirely. If anybody could explain to me why the Percy character was introduced I'd be grateful.
I may well give one of Hansford Johnson's serious books a bash at a later date but I'll need to forget about this one first.
