thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this title! i wanted to like this title more than i did because the synopsis was SO intriguing--the popularity of satanic panic literature at the moment made me hopeful that this may be something a little more subversive. alas, it did feel very similar to a lot of narratives in the same subgenre. i also had trouble getting into the art, but that's more of a subjective issue. even though the art style made sense with the narrative, it was just a little gritty and unrefined for my taste. i am glad that we're getting more queer and inclusive stories in the genre, especially in terms of graphic novels, but i feel like this just barely missed the mark for me.

I enjoyed this novel a lot! It’s a quick and easy read and I wouldn’t go in expecting major character development or the most detailed plot but I really enjoyed the queer representation in this book and the darker themes it deals with, but also the close friendship and community that you can have in queer spaces.

If you enjoy queer shit, horror and good illustrations then this is for you!!

It was really tense - I love how to satanic panic was used to show how moral panics are fabricated to distract, how it's easy to sacrifice those the community sees as undesireables. I loved the friend group, how they're tightly knit unit, full of love and support, a true queer found family. The only problem for me was that the story was short and we didn't get to really know the main four as individuals before the ending that felt abrupt. Which is shame, because I loved their rage at the world, and would like that aspect more explored. I hope they plan on continuing the comic and that this is only vol. 1 so that we get to see the characters more fleshed out.
I also loved the use of colors in art style. The art is very simple, I don't know if calling it cartoonish is a correct term, but the use of bright colors through the panels, they really help to highlight the emotions and to lift the story to another level.

Stranger Things for queer trans people who hate cops and distrust the government. 😍 A crunchy (positive) art style, some tough character moments, and a gritty look into the darker parts of people. The art style and writing style mesh well.

Queer Horror graphic novels are in a league of their own, toss in Satanic Panic from the 1970s and you've got a winner. It was dark, bloody, queer as hell.e and style of the illustrations is really cool.

OHO. Not for the squeamish, but if you're a fan of supernatural horror, reading up on MKULTRA, or other abuse-of-authority supernatural horror stories, you will LOVE this. If you're vaguely in the sphere of Stranger Things fans, the 1979 setting will likely strike a chord. I couldn't swear if it's period accurate, considering I was born in the nineties, but the setting is familiar and relevant to the story. If you're aware of and a fan of the queer punk movement, or understand anything about the reactive queer pagan/queer spiritual movement, or have met perhaps any queer satanist ever, this will definitely strike a chord. It might even be validatingly furious. What's more relatable than sheer rage?

This was a very, very fun read for me. The first thing I did was recommend it to my friends in the lovingly nicknamed body horror/supernatural/human experimentation fandom. I think it would be right up their alley. No cults, which is fair, but a fair amount of gripping terror! 10/10 would read again! Would recommend to my boss! To my friends! To my coworkers! To my cat, if I had one!

The released version I read doesn't have this cover, but eh. I like the published one better. Less strain on the eyes.

The art style is great and most of the book has great pacing. The book needed to be much longer and the ending began and ended far too quickly which led many parts of the ending to be very confusing because it felt like many panels were left out. Would recommend it and definitely think the book could have had a more drawn out ending
